White Hannah Brigade,  support for the Neolithic Goddess of the sacred landscape of Friston, Suffolk, UK.
 
The landscape encircling Friston—its henge, its riverine corridors, its multi-period deposits at Barber’s Point, and the enigmatic crag known as the Spintow—forms one of the most evocative ritual palimpsests in eastern England. Although superficially pastoral, this terrain preserves a rare continuity of sacred use from the Neolithic to the present, a continuity expressed most visibly in its material remains, and most subtly in the survival of local folklore such as the story of White Hannah, the ghost-woman who sits spinning in the Spintow at night.

When examined through the composite lenses of archaeoastronomy, landscape
phenomenology, mythology, and Indo-European cosmology, White Hannah emerges not as a
marginal tale but as the final, folk-transmitted echo of a much older goddess tradition
intimately bound to the henge-building cultures of the fourth and third millennia BCE. This
expanded reading is supported both by archaeological fieldwork and by theoretical work on
ancient cosmography, death rituals, and the integration of sky, land, and ancestry in pre-modern sacred geographies.
